Movement Therapy & Physical Therapy
At Henning Pilates & Rehabilitation we specialize in Integrative Physical Medicine (or what we’ve termed “Movement Therapy”). When formulating a treatment plan, all factors related to health, injury, lifestyle and client history are taken into account. We work in partnership with the client to build a full strategy with long-term wellness in mind- not just symptom management. We address current issues, work to minimize the risk of recurring symptoms, discuss strategies for self-care and provide the client the knowledge they need to prevent future pain and injury.
What is Movement Therapy?
Following the initial consultation where we form a treatment plan, we then utilize a variety of strategies to help clients achieve and maintain optimal health and wellness. A treatment plan may include (but is not limited to):
Functional Flexibility Training
Strength Training
Women’s Health Treatment & Education
Proper Body Mechanics Education
Pilates Therapy
Fascial Therapy
The majority of treatment plans will include some work on the Pilates Apparatus.
Why Prescribe Pilates?
"The beauty of the full Pilates environment is that the apparatus and props can be used very effectively to support, assist, and facilitate movement so the patient can learn or relearn optimal movement in a safe way," Physical therapist and Pilates Balanced Body Master Instructor Lindy D. Royer, PT, PMA-CPT, told POPSUGAR in a 2018 article by Dominique Astorino. "The Pilates environment is a natural fit for rehabilitation and physical therapy," primarily because of its flexibility to meet the patient wherever they are in their recovery journey, "no matter what their current condition or ultimate goal."
There are so many facets of Pilates that every single thing can be customized and tailored to a specific person's body, needs, and injury. "In a fully equipped Pilates studio or clinic, mat work is not our only tool," Royer said. She described support movement in "assistive, gravity-friendly positions" as well as challenging work for "training strength, balance coordination, speed, function, and endurance for even the most advanced patients."
What's more is that as the patient changes and progresses, the workout does too. "At any point along this path, we can adjust the support or challenge to make the process very specific to each individual. We are all uniquely designed, and the wonderful thing about Pilates is that it can be adapted creatively to match the individuality of the patient and meet their needs more precisely."
If you are experiencing an acute injury or are just out of surgery we also offer sessions with a licensed Physical Therapist.
Why Physical Therapy?
If your treatment plan requires manual therapy you will also be working with Markus Henning, MPT. Following a hands-on functional approach looking at how you move in your body, he will evaluate your joint and muscle function. Depending on the plan established, treatment methods may include:
Pre-hab
Post-op care
Pain Management
Fascial Therapy
Pilates Therapy
Manual Therapies
